Hip Hop Exposed?
There are some stories that seem to come out of nowhere, this story, detailing the new release of a new book detailing the hidden gay subculture in the hip hop industry. This is certainly an extremely charged subject, as hip hop has been known for being drastically homophobic (the most glaring example being white rapper Eminem) throughout the years. As such, it may strike many as odd that the industry has a gay subculture of not just executives and industry types, but of performers throughout the industry as well.
The article is quite interesting, but I’m not sure the book will make many waves. The author, Terrance Dean, decided not to name names in the volume. I can really respect the integrity of his decision. Here is a man who likely stood to make millions by outing famous rappers and performers, and he took the high road. While this may hurt his bottom line, it doesn’t make the subject matter any less interesting or thought-provoking.
