I’m feeling nostalgic today, especially after that last post about my frosh year of college and trying to find a way to download free music just after Napster had been shut down.  In that spirit, I have this article about the fact that Metallica are now ready to dip their little toesies in the pool of internet music-sharing.  They haven’t given any real specifics just yet, but the band has come out and said that they are going to definitely be following the lead of Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails, when it comes to distribution.

And so, internet file-sharing comes full circle.  Metallica were responsible for the initial death of Napster.  We all owe Metallica a debt of gratitude for destroying Napster, because without that destruction we might never have gotten to the point we’re at now, where there are numerous ways to get your free music.  Had Metallica not killed Napster, we might not have ever reached this point of free-music saturation.

And now, after all they’ve given us, Metallica wants a little back.  They now see that internet-distribution can be profitable, so they are into it.  Once Metallica realized they could make some money, they were all about the internet.  Man, I hate Metallica so much.
