Update on the Maxim Review Scandal
Today we hit up the Los Angeles Times - The Guide for a great follow-up story on the whole “Maxim doesn’t actually review records” story.
Now the guy who writes the reviews is trying to blame Maxim, but no one is buying it.
This is the quote from Black Crowes manager Pete Angelus about the whole fiasco (culled directly from the article). The Black Crowes were the band that originally busted Maxim for their policy of reviewing records they’d never actually heard.
“There’s no accountability for Dave Peisner, editor James Kaminsky or Maxim magazine. They issued a partial apology to their readership, but no apology directly to the artist whose work they denigrated without having heard more than one song, while attempting to pass it off as an album review. I think Peisner’s claim is absurd. He wrote a review of music that he never heard, he disparaged both the band and the material. He said, ‘It hasn’t left Chris Robinson and the gang much room for growth,’ and yet now he’s going to attempt to pass off his actions on Maxim? Absurd.”
Once again, it just goes to show that you should never trust music reviews from a magazine that is basically a glorified “Cosmo Guy” that propagates the myth that airbrushed women exist in the real world and will only sleep with you if you buy a ton of really expensive useless crap.
